Last Days of Summer // Photo Diary

It might be the middle of October, but here in Athens the weather is wonderful. Sunny and warm, with clear skies and no less than 25 Celsius degrees during the day is like it is calling us to go out and soak up some sun for the cold winter days. One of those days, my friend Marianna and I decided to go out for a brunch and some chit-chat.

We sat at the Athenaeum Conservatory Cafe, Kelari and I treated myself with some carrot cake - which was delicious, you should try it - and a freddo espresso, while Marianna went for a toast and a fresh orange juice. Their open space is lovely and quiet during the day, you can also go their to read a book or even do some work.

Before heading back home, we went for a stroll at Areopagitou Str. where some stunning buildings and houses stand tall under the Acropolis. Feeling so blessed and lucky that I live in this city, because, no matter what, the sun will shine eventually and the historical center is so beautiful, like a postal card.

Winter Garden

It's ALWAYS Spring (and Summer) in my heart, in my head, in my mood and, of course, in the way I dress. Although it's October already and the weather is getting colder and gloomy, I am in the mood for flowers and bright, vivid colors. This is how I am, my way of being, surviving every day. I have bad moments, like everyone else, but instinctively I overcome everything and anything that comes in the way between me and happiness. Thinking (or wearing, even better) flowers makes a great difference, trust me.

My "Winter Garden" is never withered or cold and wet. A bit cloudy and dark, but also warm and colorful.

Max Factor // Healthy Skin Harmony Launch Event

I wish it was Spring again... and then Summer! It's not that I don't love Fall or Winter, all seasons have their beauty, something different to look forward to, but I am a warm weather kind of person. Besides, I didn't enjoy this Summer as much as I wanted, but shouldn't be complaining because many awesome things happened (and many more are coming).

First of all, my Duke and I became best man and maid of honor (koumbaroi as we say it in Greek) for a very lovely couple, Angelos & Joanna. Angelos and my Duke are best friends since kindergarten (!) and that wedding was very important for us. We also renovated our house, not with many but significant changes: dropped two walls and painted it in white and pastels which was much much needed. Important Note: we donated, gifted, trashed more than 80% of our belongings (yes we did) since we are going through a phase of "less is more" and decided not to keep things that we don't need anymore.

Now, about what's coming... Well, I cannot tell you much yet, because nothing is finalized yet, but shoes and traveling are involved #boom

Stay tuned! More lovely things are coming and I cannot wait to share them with you

Lady from Shanghai

Dress // ZARA, same here
Shoes // Stradivarius, similar here
Purse // ASOS
Fan // Jumbo
Earrings // ZARA, similar here

No, today's outfit has no relation to the famous 40s movie. My inspiration actually came from Shanghai and the women that lived there during the mid-century and their style, but had nothing to do with Rita Hayworth. Besides, none of her costumes in that movie resembles to Shanghai's fashion at the time. She was more of The Lady from the US in Shanghai, just to make that clear.

Couple of days ago, I was discussing with a friend about my outfits and she asked me where I get my inspiration. For those of you that wonder, I am inspired by people, places, movies, songs, stories, books and many more everyday things and situations that actually mean something to me. I can't just create an outfit "by order" or because it is "trendy". It will look and feel fake and I will not enjoy it. Because this is why I love what I do: I enjoy the whole process, from conceiving the title to finding the perfect location, picking the correct shoes or even spending 2 hours (!) at the hair salon so that my hair will look like this.

The inspiration for today's outfit came from the dress! I spotted it on the rack, grabbed it and went to the fitting room. I bought it (because not all clothes and accessories are gifted or loaned to me) and immediately created an outfit in my head with accessories I already own. Because that's what Barefoot Duchess is all about: To help you look Chic and Stylish without spending a fortune!
